How Office X Was Started
The business idea for Office X came from the desire to provide a different workspace for remote work, other than home. Working from home can be wonderful at its best, but sometimes it can be challenging to balance important family life matters with a day full of meetings or an important work call. You might want to leave your home office without any particular reason and work elsewhere, and mobile work has become a part of everyday life. These thoughts led to the idea of Office X spaces.
Office X began to develop into a business from Janne Ukkonen’s idea in 2020. He noticed that working models and the need for business premises were at a turning point. The work world is shifting towards hybrid work, and the need for flexible shared spaces is increasing. Janne began to advance the idea of Office X and assembled a team around him. Founding members of Office X included Anna-Sofia Jarva, Minka Paananen, and Pekka Martinmäki.
The first office location opened in June 2021 at Vantaa Flamingo, and the second in January 2022 in Espoo Olari. Over the course of 1.5 years, we learned a lot about the future needs of business premises and realized that the business model needed to be changed, so we decided to close the first locations. Grateful for this learning journey, we set out to implement a new office in Jyväskylä and to seek additional locations.
Our goal moving forward is to create office spaces that offer both, private offices and flexible co-working spaces. We want to build comprehensive service packages rather than just renting out square meters, where the entirety is planned on behalf of the company. The Jyväskylä office is the first experiment of this type of solution, and we are constantly looking for new locations to implement similar co-working spaces.
